Rammell "Jokes" About "Obama Tags"

Posted by Nathaniel hoffman on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 9:46 AM

Rex Rammell, hunter?
  • Rex Rammell, hunter?
Rex Rammell, the East Idaho veterinarian who would like to be a Senator or governor or something, has criticized Gov. Otter for not buying the first wolf tag and, according to the Times-News, indicated he'd buy an "Obama tag" if offered.

Times-News reporter Jared Hopkins recounts an incident from a Tuesday night GOP fundraiser:

After an audience member shouted a question about "Obama tags" during a discussion on wolves, Rammell responded, "The Obama tags? We'd buy some of those."

Rammell tells the Times-News that it was a joke. But Rammell also sent Hopkins' story around to his media distribution list this morning.

Rammell also said Otter should have been first in line or ordered Fish and Game to save him the first tag and told Times-News reporter Jared Hopkins that the governor should have prioritized buying the tag over attending a former lawmaker's funeral.

He said "there's nothing wrong with going to a funeral" but promises as both a governor and a candidate should be followed through on. He questioned whether environmental groups pressured Otter to back off.

"He could've had someone go get it for him," he said. "Hell, he's the governor. He could've ordered the Fish and Game to give him the first tag."

I think that is a direct threat to our President.

And one of which he's apparently quite proud, since he trumpeted it in a press release.

This should be considered a threat to our President and should be dealt with accordingly.

More and more I believe that the GOP wingnuts have gone completely mental. When faced with ideas, policy changes, and and adminstration based on bettering the life of the working man, the respond like two year olds. They scream and shout but worst of all is the belief that they can threaten with guns and violence and that there is nothing wrong with that. How sad for our country.

I probably wouldn't get too uptight about the comment. It obviously wasn't a serious threat to the President. It is, however, evidence that this guy does not have the poise, eloquence, respect, or common sense to serve the public. He is obviously not politically savvy enough to check off-the-cuff death threats at the podium.

Wingnuts, crazies...enough !!! This is all rude, impolite, classless, confusing and a great embarrassment to the State of Idaho. I do think it is a verbal threat to the President and I am sure this does not move Rex towards being elected to anything...even elk catcher. Rex and Pro Life should team up and that would give the State of Idaho their own circus. Please !

It's guys like the WolfSlayer who commented earlier that really worry me when it comes to the state of our country now and also the future of our society in general. I think people like Wolf should be shunned by all of us!

Funny how when you say it about President Bush, it was funny, ok and just a joke! You libs need to get a sense of hummor! And while you are at it, get some common sense, also! Incredibly hypocritcal of all of you!! You should all read the Constitution and then maybe you will realize what a mess our liberal government and liberal media are making of this country!

It's Rex Rammell. Although the statement was completely ridiculous, and totally out of line, you must consider the source. The man is the scum of the Earth and has an IQ of about 65. Newsworthy, yes. But only because it further ruins his already ruined reputation.

Posted by desirae on August 27, 2009 at 5:13 PM | Report this comment

Carlsonline,

What liberal political candidate joked about killing Bush? This isn't about "libs joking on the internets". This is about the irresponsible advocacy of violence (if even as a "joke") coming from those seeking elected office.

They have a much larger podium form which to spread this hateful humor...they should be held to a higher standard.

Posted by LiberalLarry on August 27, 2009 at 5:13 PM | Report this comment

These kind of comments by the far right fringe (the entire Republican Party in Idaho) are exactly why I can't wait to move the hell away from here! What's wrong with people? Never in the history of our country have people shown up at presidential events with loaded AR-15s! Death threats against Obama are up 400% over what Bush received while he was in office. This is not a joke. What is it going to take? A state funeral? And why the silence from the Republican Party "leaders" that won't denounce such hateful speech? They don't do it here in this state, nor will the national Republican leadership. They are beneath contempt.

Can you imagine the uproar there would be if a teacher suggested he or she get a student tag to handle some of their difficult students? Rex Rammell's comment is the epitome of self-inflicted Hoof and Mouth Disease, something he should know how to treat. For the recorded I would have had the same harsh criticism if Rex had been directing this unacceptable comment towards former President Bush. The only running Mr. Rammel should chose to do is run and hide from his shameful diatribe.

This is simply disgusting and not a joke. I don't remember this kind of vehemence against any former President and I do not tolerate this kind of rhetoric against either party. This needs to be investigated by the proper authorities.

Rex Rammell is either mentally ill or lacking in good judgement to be considered for any elected office with any authority. Every lame rationale he uses for having made that outrageous and risky statement is indicative of a very stupid man or a very violent man. If he does not realize that irresponsible statements like that, made by public officials, could be just the incitement someone else may need as "permission", then this man should not be roaming the streets. "Patriotic Americans" do not say those things behind closed doors or in public. "Patriotic Americans" wait for the next election. So, besides potatos, Idaho has very dumb and vile people?

I hate comment pages...posted twice. To Carlsonline facism and liberalism are two diameterically opposed political ideologies so you can't be both. When were death threats made against Bush? When did any Dem-ocrat feel safe enough or entitled enough to shout out death threats against the lunatic right's boy? We were being spied upon for being liberal. Now that is facism Carl. Hey, Jim Bob since you are still online. I apreciate your comments but I am a liberal and not a communist. I studied Marx and was not too thrilled with his call for violent revolution even though I understood his reasoning. So there are varying degrees of liberalism.

Posted by jim bob on August 27, 2009 at 7:31 PM | Report this comment

oh your a genius mariah, is that why obama has spent more than any other president combined? the deficit rose "dramatically" when obama bailed everyone out. and jim bob if you are a business owner and obama bailed out your competition how would you feel about that? How does any business compete with a goverment backed company? unlike you guys i don't like socialism, never have. I love capitalism, it is the only way you can actually appreciate what you have because you had to work for it. so why should i have to pay for somebody else to have what i may have? now obama wants me and everyone else to pay for healthcare. I believe there is a time and place for welfare and charity, believe me, but when i have to be forced to give charity to some lazy ass who won't get a job because they think they are worth six figures can stick it.

Posted by mx925 on August 27, 2009 at 7:34 PM | Report this comment

also the only thing the government should be spending a lot of money on right now is the military. do you realize that we go out in the field for drills and have to say "BANG" because we had budget cuts and can't spend money on blanks. HUH DID YOU KNOW THAT?

Posted by mx925 on August 27, 2009 at 7:38 PM | Report this comment

mx, can we just talk without the anger? I'm a true believer in the capitalist method! I support a dozen workers and their families. I know that's not much compared to AIG, the right wing's favorite benefactor, but it's real MX. We are doing the hard work of keeping families solvent. It's happening all over America despite the far right's agenda.

And I'm with you on this. Corporate fascism is taking over our country. But it's not Obama. It's Phil Graham and Newt and Bennett and Limbaugh and Beck and Hannity and the rest of the the far right that are pulling us down this path. It's not Obama.

The bailout worked by avoiding a catastrophe as big as the great depression. However, I have to give part of the honor for saving us to Bush. He proposed and was able to pass a bailout for big businesses. When, Obama got to the presidency half of the money was already spend.

Posted by pacific on August 27, 2009 at 8:16 PM | Report this comment

The fascism part is right, but you have the names wrong, it is obama reid pelosi, dodd, clinton, and barney frank. how about corporate fascism like fanny mae and freddie mac? seems to me that this little left wing nut job government run mortgagers is what kicked off this whole thing. I forgot who was in charge of these? thats right the left. also the bush administration warned about this in 2003, but the all knowing left said everything is just gonna be swell. good job lefties.

the only hope the democrats have now is the blue dogs, who are a little more on the right track than the hardcore libs. so hopefully with the GOP and the blue dogs obama can shed tears in the white house for not getting his way on everything. after all even the hardcore libs are having a little trouble with this wackos agenda.

I'm not sure what the dictionary definition of "hypocrite" is, but I'm fairly positive I've found it here. Collectively it sounds as if you denounce violence and threats, but yet you're the first the treaten against the "other side" for a comment. It was not a direct threat to the esteemed President. Get a grip! Obviously you have nothing better to do than hang on the words of every GOP candidate and official to figure out where their next misstep is going to take place. Sad. It must be nice living in a perfect world of liberalism.

I also find it interesting the comments on the state of our economy and who's to blame. The wheels of failure were turning ever before Obama OR Bush took office. Perhaps you should look a little futher into the past and the person who opened up the flow of more credit....

Our financial system was ruined by Phil Gramm, who led the pack in ridding us of Glass-Steagall; regulation that prevented the kinds of abuses that caused our economy to go into freefall beginning a couple of years ago. Phil Gramm is a Texas ally of George W. Bush. Just wanted to get that straight.

We liberals called for PROSECUTION of Bush & Cheney for actual crimes committed; torture and the like. We weren't calling for their heads or joking about hunting tags. I recall making a joke about W being the last man executed in the State of Texas. The point of that is an actual LEGAL procedure in which he would have the chance to defend himself for his crimes against the United States, against humanity. The reason the joke was funny is because Bush executed a retard in Texas. Seriously. You can't be both retarded and understand what murder is. But Bush went ahead and signed the order to kill him anyway. What Rex is joking about, and what MX thinks is soooo doggone funny, is rednecks hunting down a duly elected official; like they think they're some kind of superhero vigilante. No trial, no evidence, no nothing but the bleating propaganda coming from Faux News. Rex was joking about murder. I simply don't think Rex is funny and I don't think he is comporting himself in the fashion expected of a candidate for Governor. I think he will get creamed by Butch Otter. He doesn't stand a chance. He's got no class, and he has no idea what he's talking about, or the gravity of his words. Yes, I'm a liberal, but I support Otter because he alone had the guts to stand up to the Patriot Act and knew that it was truly a Patriot Pretense and nothing more. He told me that the way to get our country back on track is NOT to have our citizens living in fear. Noble words, from an actual statesman. Rex is an amateur.

Finally someone I can vote for.

What I don't understand is why we are not putting politicians on trial for treason when they pass laws or executive orders that violate the constitution. The same goes for cops and people in the 3 letter agencies that commit treason by enforcing unconstitutional laws. Civil servants are NOT above the law. The punishment for treason is usually life in prison or execution. So the guy in the audience and Rammell are on the right track.

Maybe we could sell tags for people who are convicted of treason. We could also sell tags for people convicted for other crimes and are given the death penalty. We could make the tags expensive and put the hunt on pay-per-view to offset the court costs for his trial. I think this guy is on to something. Hey! Wait a minute. I think I watched a movie or to about this.
