elections Roberts Reports First Campaign Cash

Ken Roberts, one of at least two Republican candidates hoping to challenge Idaho Rep. Walt Minnick in 2010, is reporting his first campaign fund raising numbers. Roberts, a state legislator from Donnelly and Idaho House majority caucus chairman, says he's raised $60,000 in 7 weeks from more than 200 contributors, most of them in Idaho. He has not yet made an official disclosure to the Federal Election Commission; the filing deadline is Oct. 15.
Roberts followed former Marine Vaughn Ward in joining the GOP race against Minnick. Ward had reported raising $125,275 and had spent nearly $20,000 on his campaign, according to Opensecrets.org. We'll update those numbers next week.
UPDATE: Ward campaign manager Ryan O'Barto just called to say that Ward raised more than $100,000 in the third quarter for a total take of more than $220,000 this year.
Minnick leads the money race with $598,615 and almost $124,000 spent on his presumed 2010 re-election bid, according to Opensecrets.org, which mines the Federal Election Commission database for campaign funding information.
