Magic Valley CAFO Could Expand by a Third

Maybe Jerome County Planning and Zoning commissioners didn't read BW's examination of CAFOs in the Magic Valley. Maybe they did.

If they had, they would have learned that the C Bar M Dairy had been slapped with five waste violations in the past 10 years, including the dumping of discharge into a canal that flows directly into the Snake River.

But Aug. 30, Jerome P & Z commissioners gave their blessing to a proposed expansion at C Bar M. Operators want to add nearly 1,120 animal units to their permit for the 563-acre CAFO (confined-animal feeding operation) for a total of 4,080.

The application now makes its way to Jerome county commissioners for a public hearing, likely at the end of September.
