Boise Council Takes Anti-Panhandling Campaign City-Wide

Posted By on Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 9:14 AM

Tuesday night, the Boise City Council approved $15,000 to expand a campaign that urges Boiseans not to give cash to men and women, who position themselves on street corners and in parking lots, looking for assistance.

This summer, the city launched a "pilot" program, Have a Heart, Give Smart, at the Albertsons on State and 17th Streets, using posters and leaflets to encourage citizens to make donations to charities or organizations rather than individuals. Tuesday night, city officials reported to the City Council that "panhandling dropped about 10 percent during the pilot project."
