Simpson: Continuing Resolution Should Include Delisting of Wolves

On Capitol Hill, House Republicans are scrambling to put together a continuing resolution to fund the U.S. government beyond March 4. An original resolution was shelved last week when the far-right wing of the party argued the cuts did not go deep enough.

Republican Rep. Mike Simpson said today he is adding a provision to the resolution to delist wolves across much of the region. Simpson's bill would reinstate the 2009 decision by U.S. Fish and Wildlife to delist the gray wolf in Idaho and Montana.

"It makes no sense to call wolves in Idaho and Montana an endangered species," said Simpson. The congressman said wolves "have grown to the point where they are adversely impacting other wildlife populations in the region and wreaking havoc for ranchers, hunters and public land users in Idaho."
