The Idaho Freedom Foundation, which has recently advocated for nullification of what it calls Obamacare, has picked up another issue: the debate over wolves in Idaho. The organization teamed up with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Idaho Outfitters and Guides to bring its drive to repeal the Endangered Species Act to Boise State on Feb. 16.
“The wolves have no place in the Endangered Species Act,” said Jim Beers, retired special agent for U.S. Fish and Wildlife. “They’re nothing but dogs and don’t let anyone tell you different.”
Beers, a 30-year veteran of Fish and Wildlife, told a room of students and activists that his former employer “is dismal.”
“Fish and Wildlife doesn’t want to manage the land or the wildlife,” said Beers. “Once they started hiring women and minorities, the service went from managing the land and wildlife to saving all the animals and habitats.”

Wolves were in this land before the white man, Indians learned to not only live with them, but respect them.Wolves have survived through much adversity including humans. The Canadian Grey Wolf was introduced into the Rockies to reintroduce the natural order of life in the Rockies, a wolf to replace the Timber Wolf which man and it's sprawl of construction, and ignorance of the animals wiped out. Mother nature has taken down more deer and elk than all the wolves combined. The reintroduction of wolves into the Rockies has already bought back natural habitat that the over population of the Elk had ruined. The huge herds of Elk had eaten the foliage by the rivers and streams which supported the beavers. The beavers natural construction of dams support many kinds of wild life. Thanks to the wolves, the beavers are back and growing in numbers. We need to base our decisions on the science of nature, not emotions. Elimination of the Wolves in the Rockies was a negative consequence on nature. When will we learn not to second guess nature. Are we going to be that ignorant the second time around? That's like saying "lets bring back Geronimo and his people, and when they are perceived to be a problem, we will just wipe them all out...again"! We need a Wolf management program, not an elimination program. I sure hope we can be smarter this time around.
GOD knew what HE was doing when HE made the wolves. all humans know what to do is destroy and kill. LEAVE NATURE ALONE.
Beers unfortunately represents the vast majority of of the undereducated, self-entitled pioneer minded rednecks that rule Idaho. Anyone that would listen to a single word this racist bigot would say is no better than he is. No matter how long these ass-hole ranchers have been here, the wolves and indigenous people have got him beat on the historical timeline. Beers... you are you descendants need to move back east.
Beers last comment about women and minorites tells you all you need to know about his thinking process. But the issue of wolves is much bigger than this bigot. They are critical to a balanced and healthy ecosystem. For those who want the forrests to be just an elk farm to ensure their hunting success, get over yourselves and think about your children and grandchildren.
People are nothing but monkeys and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Hey, what the hell's this guy got against dogs anyway? I love dogs. Please don't shoot the puppies.
wolves should be managed agressively, I dont agree with all the hippy puppy love bullshit. But to put a quote up of a guy who worked a fish and game and didnt like working with women and minoritys makes the point there trying to make look red neck and uneducated. Nice work
Women and minorities? How the hell did this racist/bigot ever get a job? He should have been born in the 1700's. If his mind got any tinier, you'd need a microsope...
So, I wonder.....exactly which animals is that God says we should kill and which are worthy of living? hmmmmmmmm...cuz I'm pretty sure he left that decision up to Jim Beers
My Gosh, if anyone listens to this guy, they themselves are as bigot, racist, and wildlife hater. Please dont tell me he goes to church too! Why does some humans feel the need to kill everything they dont understand, feel threatened in some way by it, or just have a strong desire to kill?? IF you believe in God, a Higher Power, then you believe in His Creations and find some kind of humane compromise to live WITH Nature and not against it.
If all you wolf lovers like them so much, why don't you take one home with you. I often take an Elk home with me, better that, than one of them.
It never ceases to amaze me how these fools can advocate the most obvious and purile forms of hatred and bigotry and still claim to be under the banner of 'freedom'. Freedom is mutual and reciprocal. If you can't respect the freedom of all then you don't deserve it.
I will say one thing that I think everyone should consider. I am not a biologist. I don't know the factors necessary for managing an ecosystem effectively. I am NOT QUALIFIED to say what should and should not be done, but what I CAN do is recognise those who haven't got a clue and who would act on motivations other than for preserving balance, those who cannot separate the light and dark sides of Nature from their own twisted morality.
Humanity is the most destructive force ever to arrive on this planet bar none.
Its funny how people a so quick to stick there necks out to "save the wolves." His statement that they are just "dogs,"is un-believable they are not dogs but savage blood thirsty killers. Everyone of you who thinks otherwise doesnt spend enough time in the woods. People point fingers and say that we are rednecks, un-educated, and you think that wolves are "god's creatures." Comon, get a clue, wait you dont have a clue because you sit in your north Boise home and listen to BBC, watch Keith Olberman, and you were most likely a bookworm nerd in school that got a so called "education" at some liberally minded college somewhere and that makes you an expert. They are costing this state millions upon millions of dollars in lost revenue and if were not careful our small towns are going to start turning into ghost towns. There is also a reason we got rid of them years ago, it wasn't for fun. Im done because im sure your sitting there thinking of some "educated" way to slam something back at me without getting the point. Later!
Nice try. 9 out of 10 for effort, but you failed at "costing this state millions upon millions of dollars in lost revenue". By what right do you judge the lives and survival of a species against transitory material wealth?
Below is an informative link comparing what Idaho had, versus what we have now. It's not the same, so don't call it a 're-introduction'.
If you really are sincere in your beliefs that things should have been left alone or restored to what they were, then the canadian grays have no place here.
This means that we wouldn't have the larger animals here that thrive in large packs and kill for sport. Even bear and mountain lion have been impacted by the introduction of a non-native sub species.
While Mr. Beers is entitled to his opinions (aghh) about women and what not, don't lose the truth b/c one man has personal views that differ with yours.

Always the women and minorities, damn equality!
Mr. Beers, you are the scum of the Earth. What a moron.
hmm, most the responses here all seem radical and condescending to one thing or another. The truth is the wolves that have been brought into the area are not native. They populate quickly and endanger the balance of natural process. It has nothing to do with "women" or "minorities" It has to do with the continual argument between wild life management and environmentalists primarily from the east that have no clue what these wolves look like and how they effect the economy, (beef on the table) and the over kill and slaughter of elk, deer, and domestic animals, sheep, dogs cats. Wolves have no natural enemy so they populate the area quickly and do more than just weed out the sickly. It has been reported they kill for sport and leave waste. No they do not belong on the "endangered species" list. They do not belong here as they are not of this area. But lets leave out all the other name calling stuff as it makes you look stupid.
"""Nice try. 9 out of 10 for effort, but you failed at "costing this state millions upon millions of dollars in lost revenue". By what right do you judge the lives and survival of a species against transitory material wealth?""""
YES, they cost the state millions upon millions of dollars!! You are the epidemy of a greeny. Pal they are not in any danger of going extinct hate to break it to you. According to greenanswers.com there are over 200,000 left wordwide. Like its been stated many times above they have no natural predators and are overwhelming Idahos eco-system. A true travesty to Idahos wilderness say the least.
I invite all of you self-proclaimed wolf biologists who claim to know something about the reintroduction of the species, and their place in the eco-system to read an article printed in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News a couple of weeks ago about the research done by University of Idaho Professor Oz Garton. I'm sure ya'all could google the mans name and find the research.
Until you actually know what you're talking about, and have become educated on a topic, don't throw around your hearsay opinion. You are completely ignorant. I find it fascinating that people still argue that "wolves kill all of our elk" when just a couple of years ago Idaho hunter's had their best harvest year in history. Give me a break. Get educated before you open your mouths.

Hahahaha, ya ok, I will just go ahead and take his word for it. With those creditials he must be un-biased. Just like I said before and so typical. Go spend some time in the high country before you run your mouth on this thread........
So the biggest argument against the wolf I hear is that they are not the subspecies that the white man wiped out and don't belong here. That argument would sure make it difficult to justify cattle, sheep, horses, almost all of our agricultural crops and us white people. The second argument is that they kill for sport? OMG, have you been to Cabela's? And finally they upset the balance of nature. We don't do too well on the measure while the wolves have been doing well for hundreds of thousands of years with all in balance.
We wiped them out for a reason larry. Liberals just dont get it, no how matter how many times you tell them. They are smarter, more educated, never wrong, like to hear them selves talk, among many of there quality's. Hahaha "have you been to Cabelas," yes I have as a matter of fact, its a great store. It must be nice to sit there on your leather chair and type away on the computer with muffins sitting on your lap. Hey I got an idea why dont you go take muffins up into the backcountry this year on a backpacking trip, say 4 nights, I pick the spot? I will find you a nice remote spot that the two of you can have a nice peaceful vacation. Unless you leash old muffins up she aint comin back...........sad but unfortunately true. All fun and games until you actually GET OFF YOUR INTELLECTUAL HIGH HORSE AND GO TAKE A LOOK FOR YOURSELF. Enough said!
Hey there little Red Riding Hood...you sure are looking good...You got everything a Big Bad Wolf could want.....aahoooO!
Hmmm...food for thought.
For all he says the "educated liberals" talk so much, I note that "EDUCATED LIBERAL" has talked the most. Seems he has a chip on his shoulder about his lack of education. Well, I HAVE been in the backcountry, and I'm not any more scared of wolves than I am the bears or the mountain lions or hunters who pack guns bigger than their brains. Carry bear spray and a gun and you'll be just fine. How much money could Idahoans make if they were smart enough to conduct "wolf tours", I wonder. Maybe more than they make shooting elk in fences.....by the way, how sportin' is that?
now im disturbed on so many levels this hick jim beers yes this is how u know he's a hick his damn last name is beers. he's racist, not femanicst, and he is not open minded either. i cant stand this guy, and i go on here and the first comment i read is kill all wolves. i hope a wolf tears that guys face off....
I am disgusted by Idaho and their intent to apparently eliminate the wolf species. We have already destroyed enough wildlife, let's save a species perhaps?? Hunters claim wolves feed on the elk, "destroying" their hunt, while wolves prey on the young, injured, old or sick, not necessarily the elk the hunters are after. Hunters, put your guns up and learn go to a wolf reserve and learn some more. And frankly saying "bring your own wolf home" is immature, and idiotic. They live in the WILD idiot. Where apparently you were raised.
Have we learned so little from our historical mistakes? Will we be not be happy until we have destroyed everything pure and natural in our world leaving nothing for our children and our grandchildren? Some of the comments I see make my heart sad and make me sick to my stomach. I would rather have an abundance of wolves and other wild animals roam this planet, than people like Beers. We could learn much respect for nature about living in balance if we just took more time to observe the laws of nature and not the laws of man. Leave the wolves alone, and leave what remaining bits and pieces of nature that man has not yet destroyed to Mother Earth. We all share this planet together ~ no species is above the other ~we were ALL put here for a purpose, regardless of what you barbaric mindless idiots think ~~and it was not to wipe each other out into extinction.
Wolves are a natural predator, that belongs in idaho's nature, and should be protected. Natural predators are a GOOD thing - the wolves would control the wild horse population that is supposedly unmanageable, deer and elk herds that starve to death because there are too many of them / not enough foragable food in the winter. Who gives a F*&^ if the wolves kill a few cows, the Ranchers get PAID by the federal government for any cow that is killed by wolves, they also have all of these cows insured so they get double their money if a cow dies, and on-top of all that 90% of the land they have their stupid cows grazing on is FEDERAL LAND WITH SUBSIDIZED GRAZING LEASES.
IN the souhern U.S. they are having huge problems with wild pigs that breed like crazy, and destroy farms and property. This is because all of the natural predators have been killed off down there - wolves, coyotes, cougars, bears. While there is still a handful of said animals, it is not enough to manage any kind of invasive species population.
Boy O Boy are these city people easy to lie to, and have them beleive it! These pigs you talk about are not native to this country either. Predators have to be managed also, the balance in nature has been gone for a long time now. Sportsmen are the only reason we have the wildlife we have in this country! 9Sportsmen are the only true conservationist in this country! Pigs are out of control just like your non-native Canadian Wolf! God must be very mad. Canadian Wolves are the worst crime ever committed on our native wildlife!
