Labrador's First Bill Targets BLM, White House on "Wild Lands"

Posted By on Tue, Mar 1, 2011 at 3:13 PM

Freshman Republican Congressman Raul Labrador has chosen to take on White House-approved "wild lands" as his first piece of congressional legislation.

Labrador introduced H.R. 846 today, better known as the Idaho Land Sovereignty Act. If approved, Labrador's measure would require Congressional oversight when the Bureau of Land Management considers wilderness designations.

"Secret, unilateral, unaccountable and unresponsive to local and national needs are just some of the words to describe the recent actions of this administration when it comes to public lands policy," said Labrador. "The administration is totally out-of-line with the interests of western states by denying us the right to manage our own lands and wildlife populations."

Earlier today, Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter visited Capitol Hill to testify on behalf of the bill before the House Natural Resources Committee.
