Senate Approves Advertising on School Buses

Posted By on Tue, Mar 1, 2011 at 2:12 PM

The Idaho Senate has approved a plan today that would allow advertising on school buses. The proposal would allow school districts the option to sell ad space, but the final arbiter would be the State Board of Eduction. For instance, the bill would ban political campaigns from advertising on school buses.

If the measure heads to the House, and if approved by Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter, one of the first districts in line to sell school bus ads would be Meridian. Eric Exline, a representative for the state's largest district, indicated that advertising could generate $1.5 million in annual gross revenue. Meridian has 280 school buses in its fleets.
