More than 200 students walked out of class this morning, continuing their protest against Tom Luna's proposals to reform education. Students from Mountain View High School in Meridian made their way to the Capitol to join other youth from Boise's North Junior and South Junior high schools.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. the students were escorted from inside the Statehouse and took their rally to the steps of the Capitol. Boise police officers, who were aware of the pending walkouts, were stationed along city streets between the schools and the Capitol.

"Right when the first bell rang, we all left," said Riley Hale of South Junior.

Hale's classmates told Citydesk they were well versed on Luna's plans.

"We're here to stop teachers from losing their jobs," said Corbin Hecht.

"And their merit pay," interrupted Logan Coats. "We want teachers who interact with us. That's how we learn."
