JFAC Approves Major Cuts to Medicaid

Posted By on Fri, Mar 18, 2011 at 8:57 AM

Legislative budget writers have set a budget for Medicaid. The much-debated spending plan totals $436 million in general funds and includes all of the huge cuts proposed in House Bill 260.

Among other things HB 260 calls for are a discharge of 35 patients from state institutions, charging co-payments to patients, reducing reimbursements to caregivers and reducing psycho-social rehabilitation services for adults. Lawmakers heard a great deal about so-called PSR services this session. On Feb. 23 BW introduced you to Chris, a young man in Mackay who told us he'd rather have his services than food.

This morning's vote by the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee was 15-4 along party lines.
