Senate Approves Lowest Higher Ed Budget in More Than a Decade

Posted by George Prentice on Thu, Mar 24, 2011 at 1:57 PM

Along a party-line vote of 28-7, the Idaho Senate approved a spending plan calling for 3.5 percent cut to the state's universities and colleges.

The $209.8 million general fund budget is $7.6 million less than a year ago, forcing Boise State, University of Idaho, Idaho State University and Lewis-Clark State College to face layoffs, program cuts, increased tuition or possibly all three.

The Fiscal Year 2012 higher ed budget is the lowest since 2000. Senate Bill 1181 now heads to House for consideration.

Gee god forbid they use some of the millions and millions they pull in from football to help cover expences. No that would be bad business to use profits from one aspect of the school to help others.

Interesting post. I'll have to keep it in mind, because I'd love to run my own business soon. It'll obviously be challenging, so I can use all the financial help I can get..
