Exxon Test Mega-load Will Roll Monday

Posted By on Sun, Apr 3, 2011 at 4:44 PM

If the weather cooperates, Exxon/Mobil will be allowed to send a test mega-load from the Port of Lewiston across U.S. Highway 12 to the Montana border. The Idaho Transportation Department has granted Exxon's request to roll the oversized shipment beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow night.

Exxon has plans to move nearly 200 massive pieces of oil equipment from Lewiston through Montana and up to the Kearl Oil Sands Project in Alberta, Canada. But none of it will happen before ITD holds a contested case hearing in the matter. A similar hearing was held last fall before ConocoPhillips was granted permits to move four mega-loads across the same route. Two of Conoco's loads have already rolled across Idaho. Two more are still parked at the Port of Lewiston. They're expected to be moved this month.
