Nampa Charter School in the Red, May Close

Another Canyon County charter school is in trouble. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that OWL Charter Academy may have to close its doors by Friday if it can't come up with $14,000 to pay its bills. The Nampa School District board of trustees turned down a $70,000 loan to the school that could have kept operations running through mid-May.

This week's shortfall of $14,000 could be the least of OWL's worries. The IPT reports that the charter school faces a projected year-end deficit of $119,000.

OWL Charter Academy opened its doors for the first time last fall with an enrollment of 180 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
