Criminal Justice Expert Dies on Boise State Campus

Posted By on Fri, Apr 22, 2011 at 8:56 AM

Dr. Michael Blankenship, an expert on crime in the Treasure Valley, died on the campus of Boise State Thursday afternoon. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Blankenship, a professor of criminal justice, was a former police officer in his hometown of Asheville, N.C. From June 2002 through December 2006, he served as dean of Boise State's College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs.

Blankenship was a go-to source on crime and social justice issues. In March, he actively blogged on the controversy surrounding proposed legislation to allow guns on college campuses and just last month he presented a public forum on the history of criminal justice in the Treasure Valley. When he wasn't talking about cops and robbers, he was usually talking about his love for motorcycles and golf.
