Conoco Completes Idaho Mega-Load Journeys

Posted By on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 11:26 AM

Four months. Four mega-loads. The fourth and final ConcoPhillips mega-load finished its journey across Idaho last night.

In early February, Conoco began hauling the massive equipment from the Port of Lewiston across U.S. Highway 12 and on to its Billings refinery. When the fourth load crossed into Montana at 11:06 p.m. Sunday night, it closed the first chapter in the ongoing saga surrounding the controversial shipments.

ExxonMobil is now awaiting a contested case hearing judge to hand down a ruling on whether the Idaho Transportation Department can move forward with a permitting process that could allow more than 200 mega-loads to roll across the same route on a journey that will take the equipment up to the Kearl Oil Sands Project in Alberta, Canada.
