Idaho State Sen. John McGee was arrested early this morning and sent to Ada County Jail on charges of DUI and grand theft.

A spokesman for Ada County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to a car crash on Knapp Place near Victory Road about 2:20 a.m. That's where they found an SUV that had jack-knifed with its cargo trailer. Deputies said the vehicle was stuck on a barrier separating a residential yard from a driveway. Deputies said McGee was the only person inside the vehicle. McGee told deputies that he was traveling to Jackpot, Nev. During the investigation, deputies said they determined the SUV, a Ford Excursion, and the trailer had been stolen from a nearby residence.

McGee registered a blood alcohol content of .15 on a breath test.

McGee is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow afternoon in district court.

McGee serves the citizens of Idaho District 10, including Caldwell, Greenleaf and Wilder. He was first elected to the Idaho Senate in 2004. Earlier this year, he was chosen by his party to serve as Majority Caucus chair in the Senate. He is a member of three Senate committees: Local Government and Taxation, State Affairs and Transportation.

Yes let us open our hearts with grace for this irresponsible man that could have injured or killed an innocent person. But another must resign because picture that he sent to another adult are scandalized all over the media, because his actions were between two consenting adults and wouldn't have harmed anyone. Shouldn't we open our hearts with grace to the second individual also? Oh wait, guy one is a repub and the other is a dem, he doesn't deserve that. What a crock. This knuckle head should get what is coming to him, and should resign to avoid further embarrasment.

I know Senator McGee and he is not of the character to do something like this. He is a well respected member of the Senate as well as the community. We work in the same organization and he has always been a role model, a caring individual, a family man, and this just blows me away. Something is not right here. I hope and pray that the truth of how he ended up in this condition comes out because this is a honest man and although there have been a lot of scandels involving political figures in the news these days, this is just not the type of man John McGee is. You are in my thoughts and I hope that the truth comes out and that you will be back with us soon. G. Masters

With alcohol/sex in politic's now-days its very sad these somewhat noble everyday folks doesnot resign there post and let another fill the void. Good people should voice concerns and teach proper ethic's. HHWhit

Before this, he may have been "well respected" but he's not any more. Personnel weaknesses have a way of eventually breaking through the public veneer. This sudden playboy personality didn't emerge overnight; it was there all along. And if Republicans defend this guy, Idahoans will deepen their distrust of the party that loves to point fingers at flawed Democrats and Independents.

BSU girl, it is not accurate to say this is not in McGhee's character. He did it, which makes it part of his character. Simple.

I agree with OftenOutraged. You don't just jump out of character. It's there all along. Some just hide it better. Alcohol loosens inhibitions but it doesn't change the basic personality.
