Unless someone steps forward to move two century-old homes in Boise's Central Addition District, they will be demolished in September in order to make room for a parking lot.
Trilogy Development of Meridian has purchased the properties at 411 and 413 South Fifth Street, the current location of a home built in 1894 and another in 1904. Kent Brown of Bailey Engineering, working for the developers, said the original intent was to build an apartment building on the sites, but instead they will seek a conditional use permit from the city to put in a gravel parking lot, including 28 spaces.
Sheri Freemuth, program officer of the Western Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, said her organization would be more than happy to work with anyone who would take ownership of the homes and move them to another location.

I have always loved 413 S. 5th. It is a beautiful and unique home. If nobody steps forward to move the homes, would the developers at least be willing to let people do architectural salvage?
I made a point of passing by these two homes before commenting.
They are an eyesore.
The owners of this private property are doing what they believe will benefit them the most.
They offered the buildings at no cost to anyone who wants to haul them away.
Too many "preservationists" want to control the property of others.
Real preservation should be about preserving private property and all other rights
that no real job bum government officials have not yet stolen away from us.
Why arent they being considered for historical preservation? They are a fading part of Boise history. They are two old-school homes in downtown that help give Boise its small town feel.
Sure they need some work, but what a difference they make, down near the Zoo/JDP. They give you that sense of old Americana that a paved or gravel parking lot never will. Or hey, Its a place to park for BSU games. Just saying.
To the person who "made a point of passing these eyesores" obviously you did not go inside these historical homes. The Homes would be too costly to move and they would practically have to be cut in half. I have also heard that no salvaging would be allowed. It has been looked into.
"How are houses like this not protected against this type of rubbish?!"
If you hurry and make an offer that Trilogy Development can't refuse, you can protect them for whatever purpose you would like! JUST DO IT!
