Parades, Re-enactment, Demolition Derby and Fireworks

Noisy or contemplative, historical or contemporary, take your pick. As the nation celebrates its 235th birthday, Treasure Valley residents have a menu of options to mark the occasion (and, coincidentally, Idaho's 121st birthday).

Parades are being held today in Boise, Caldwell, McCall, Melba and Middleton. Local government officials are dressing up as the founding fathers today, re-enacting the signing of the Constitution (even though the holiday is really about the Declaration of Independence). Things will be a bit more boisterous in Homedale, where they're holding a demolition derby at the Owyhee County fairgrounds.

Fireworks are scheduled for Boise, Caldwell, Emmett, Homedale, Melba, Meridian, Middleton and Wilder. In this week's BW, we meet Bruce Lawson of Homeland Fireworks, who is helming tonight's big pyrotechnics show at Ann Morrison Park.
