A Boise man perished while fighting wildfires in Texas. Caleb Hamm, 24, was a seasoned firefighter with the Bureau of Land Management "Hotshot" crew. BLM officials said Hamm collapsed while working a fireline near Mineral Wells, Texas. Indications are the extreme heat was a primary factor. An autopsy has been scheduled.
"Our entire organization deeply mourns the death of one of our own," said Robert Abbey, BLM's national director. "His passing gives us pause to consider what truly matters in life."
Hamm was a 2010 University of Idaho graduate.
