Nation's Unemployment Rate Climbs Again

Posted By on Fri, Jul 8, 2011 at 8:30 AM

A lousy report on unemployment is the latest specter to haunt the nation's faltering economy. The U.S. Dept. of Labor reported this morning that the jobless rate edged up to 9.2 percent in June, adding a meager 18,000 new jobs compared to May.

At least 14.1 million Americans were out of work in June, 6.3 million have been jobless for six months or longer. The Labor Department said that following gains averaging 215,000 jobs per month from February through April, employment has been "essentially flat" for the past two months.

Idaho's unemployment rate currently stands at 9.4 percent. Boise's jobless rate is 9.1 percent. New Idaho numbers are expected next week.
