Albertsons customers can say goodbye to self-checkout lanes. Albertsons' parent company, Supervalu, has decided that self-checkout "no longer fits with the customer-service experience it wants." The self-check lanes are expected to be phased out this month.
Albertsons isn't alone. Kroger, another major grocery chain, recently removed self-checkout lanes in its "high traffic" stores. The Whole Foods and H-E-B chains have decided to use what they call "metro lane express checkouts" instead of self-checkout lanes.
