Environment Mega-load Opponents Ask For Reconsideration

Mega-load opponents aren't giving up anytime soon in an effort to block more than 200 ExxonMobil mega-loads from rolling past their central Idaho homes.
Opponents filed a petition today asking Hearing Officer Duff McKee to reconsider his June 27 decision to let the giant rigs roll from the Port of Lewiston, across U.S. Highway 12 along the Clearwater and Lochsa Rivers.

"Our central concern is the economy of north central Idaho," said Lin Laughy, who lives along U.S. 12. "Particularly its single thriving industry, a $166 million tourism industry that employs 4,600 Idahoans. We worry that the nightly presence of three or more 20-vehicle industrial convoys rumbling up the highway and continuously blocking traffic will dissuade tourists and recreationists from coming here."
