No Canyon County GOP Investigation Into McGee's DUI

The Idaho Press Tribune reports this morning that State Sen. John McGee skated away from a Canyon County Republican Central Committee meeting last night still holding his title as chairman.

A motion to launch an investigation into McGee's DUI incident in June failed 22-10. Another vote, 23-6, confirmed that the Central Committee would take no future action on the subject.

"This is an aberration," said committee member Todd Lakey. "There's no pattern in this conduct. John took responsibility and pleaded guilty and paid his restitution."

McGee pleaded guilty on July 1 to a misdemeanor of driving under the influence. The State Senate GOP caucus chairman and four-term Republican senator from Idaho District 10 was arrested on June 19 after he was found passed out in an SUV and trailer that he had taken from a nearby home and then jackknifed in the driveway of another home.

As part of his plea agreement, McGee was sentenced to 180 days in jail, 175 of which were suspended, 24 hours of community service, a 180-day suspension of his drivers license, one year of unsupervised probation, restitution to the homeowners and owners of the vehicle, and participation in a victims panel related to drunk driving.
