Wolf Activists Ask For Last Minute Injunction

Posted by George Prentice on Sun, Aug 14, 2011 at 9:26 AM

Facing an Aug. 30 deadline when Idaho's wolf hunt season is scheduled to begin, the Alliance for the Wild Rockies, Friends of the Clearwater and WildEarth Guardians are seeking an Emergency Injunction from the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to stop the imminent hunt.

"Beginning in less than three weeks, hundreds of gray wolves that should be protected as an endangered species are about to be hunted and killed," said Mike Garrity, executive director of the Alliance for the Wild Rockies. "Our only option is to seek an injunction to stop the illegal killing of wolves."

On Aug. 3, U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy ruled that the U.S. Congress was within its authority to remove Endangered Species Act protection from approximately 1,500 gray wolves in Montana and Idaho.

Why do we bother studying history if we refuse to learn from it?

I considered the argument that before Idaho was settled by people, other than native indians, the natural balance of Elk and Wolfs was doing just fine. Man settles the land, moves the wolfs out and that's suppose to be better, more protective of the Elk??? After reading the argument above by the forty year Idaho resident, I don't believe there's any reason to begin. Stupid stays stupid regardless of common sense, forty years of ignorance cannot be reversed by one good argument. It's a sad day when the wolves do indeed disappear, sadder still to realize how badly state run K-12 education has failed in Idaho.
