Starbucks CEO to Hold Nationwide Political Forum

Posted By on Sat, Sep 3, 2011 at 11:15 AM

Some people like their politics the same as their coffee-strong. At least that's what Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has in mind as he hosts a national political forum this coming Tuesday.

The coffee king says U.S. political leaders are responsible for a "crisis in confidence," wreaking havoc on the economy. Schultz said he wants to give U.S. citizens a voice by hosting a coast-to-coast telephone forum.

Schultz is running ads in The New York Times ahead of the event, featuring a letter that urges participation in the forum, insisting that politicians end their "hyper partisan behavior." Schultz recently called on other CEOs to cut off political contributions until the nation's politicos "become financially disciplined and stop their political wrangling."

The forum is set to take place in an already politically charged week with a GOP presidential candidates debate on Wednesday and a speech from President Obama before a joint session of Congress on Thursday.
