Luna to Appear at White House Ceremony Friday

Posted By on Thu, Sep 22, 2011 at 5:24 PM

Tom Luna's office announced late today that Idaho's superintendent of public instruction will be joining President Barack Obama Friday for a White House announcement on the No Child Left Behind law.

Obama is expected to unveil a new process to give states more flexibility under the controversial measure. Under the current law, states can only gauge school success based on proficiency. On Friday, the president is expected to announce a new way for states, like Idaho, to apply for waivers but still comply with the federal mandate.

Luna will be at the White House early Friday as Obama and the U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announce the new waiver system.
