Time Poll: Obama Still Leads GOP Field

With the first primary or caucus votes to be cast in New Hampshire and Iowa in a bit more than two months, Time Magazine is out this morning with a new poll that shows that President Barack Obama is still ahead of his GOP rivals. The survey also indicates that voters side with Democrats on taxes.

Obama leads potential Republican rivals Mitt Romney and Rick Perry in hypothetical general-election match-ups, according to Time. The poll shows Obama with a 3 percent lead among likely voters over Romney, and 12 percent leads over Perry and Herman Cain.

The poll also revealed that 42 percent of respondents said they placed greater trust in the Democrat Party to deal with the nation's problems, compared to 31 percent for Republicans.

The news isn't all good for the president. Only 44 percent of those polled approved of Obama's performance. A mere 5 percent felt positive or unconcerned about the current state of the nation.
