NASA has unwrapped a Christmas gift a bit early and shared it with the planet.
The space agency's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, better known as WISE, captured this breathtaking nebula called Barnard 3. NASA scientists are nicknaming the spectacle "Wreath Nebula," with its bursts of red surrounded by a celestial evergreen.
The vision comes from 1,000 light years away. The special effects are attributed to what NASA calls "savage stellar winds blasting from a central bright star."
WISE was launched in 2009 to map the stars.
