The College of Idaho took another big step toward the creation of the region's first endowed chair in Judaic studies.

Last June, BW spoke with C of I professor Dr. Howard Berger, who has dreamed of the endowed chair since joining the college's faculty in 1982. Berger teaches Jewish history, hosts an annual Passover Seder, and involves the campus in other Jewish traditions through the school year.

In his honor, the C of I has established the Howard Berger Lecture Series, bringing Jewish dignitaries and public figures to campus to speak about contemporary Jewish issues.

Today, the college announced that it had received a combined $350,000 gift from the Craig Neilsen Foundation and 1988 alumnus Ray Neilsen. The C of I now has raised approximately $1.5 million toward the chair endowment goal of $2.3 million.
