Idaho Legislature House Considering Alcoholic Beverage Control Bill

Idaho Lawmakers are considering a bill that seeks to expand the state's Alcoholic Beverage Control efforts by creating a special dedicated fund. The measure seeks to increase funding to a meagerly staffed ABC division of the Idaho State Police—one man handles all beverage control enforcement for the state. The ABC officer polices 5,000 Idaho establishments, licensed to serve beer, wine and liquor by the drink.
The bill seeks "to provide moneys for the Alcohol Beverage Control Fund, to provide that expenditures from such fund shall be subject to legislative appropriation," according to the bill's Statement of Purpose.
The House Judiciary Rules and Administration Committee approved the measure, which could see $1.5 million in licensing fees generated for the newly created fund. The money could support up to 10 ABC officers and two additional support staff.

Talk about shoot yourself in the foot. Lets go ahead and raise the cost of the by-the-drink liquor license so the establishment owners have to raise their prices in order to off set the cost of the license. Sharp! Thats all we need is more state government dictation.
