Glass Recycling Fees Drop by Half

Posted By on Tue, Feb 14, 2012 at 9:42 AM

Recognizing that the initial cost was too high, Boise City officials and Republic Services announced today that they're reducing the fee for curbside glass collection.

The original subscription cost, $9.95, has dropped by nearly half, to $5.50 a month.

A poll of BW readers in March 2011 indicated that 29 percent of those asked would pay $5-$9.99 monthly for curbside recycling, while only 12.6 percent indicated they would pay $10 or higher.

"Many residents told us the price tag was out of reach for many families," said Mayor Dave Bieter. "I'm thrilled [Republic and Boise] have worked together to make the program more cost-effective and accessible."

The $5.50 subscription fee provides residents with an extra 65-gallon glass-only gray cart.

Online registration is available at curbitboise.org.

The city still maintains 17 community drop-off collection sites located throughout Boise.
