Study: Nearly 1 in 5 Idaho High School Students Smoke Pot

The Twin Falls Times-News reports today of new statistics pointing to high marijuana use among Idaho high school students.

The findings were included in the 2011 Idaho Youth Risk Behavior Survey, released this month by the Idaho State Department of Education. The survey asked more than 1,700 students in 48 randomly selected public high schools about their drug use.

Among the findings:

-18.8 percent used marijuana one or more times during the past year
-3.2 percent used methamphetamine one or more times during their life
-3 percent used heroin at least once in their life
-7 percent used cocaine at least once in their life
-9 percent used ecstasy at least once in their life
-23 percent carried a weapon such as a gun, knife or club during the past 30 days
-65 percent have had at least one drink of alcohol in their lifetime
