Times-News Endorses Romney, Slams Gingrich, Paul and Santorum

Mitt Romney won an endorsement this morning from the Twin Falls Times-News.

In its front-page endorsement, the Times-News editorial board passed by Ron Paul, the only Republican presidential candidate to visit the Magic Valley this year.

"A Paul presidency is likely to propel us back into an isolationist position," said the Times-News. "His proposal to rescind the 16th Amendment, eliminate federal income tax and abolish the Internal Revenue Service is neither practical nor advisable."

The editorial board also slammed Newt Gingrich.

"[Gingrich] is the only speaker reprimanded for misconduct while in office," said the Times-News. "He also found time to bounce a number of checks - probably more excusable if one of them hadn't been for more than $9,000, made out to the IRS."

The editorial board dubbed Rick Santorum an "intersting candidate."

"Despite what he would have you believe, Santorum is not a theologian," said the Times-News. "And his continued tendency to use his own beliefs as the country's litmus test on what is right, moral and Christian is troubling at best and dangerous at worst."

The Times-News ultimately said that Romney's rhetoric "is exactly where the next president's energy ought to be focused."
