According to new statistics out this morning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, autism rates in the United States have reached a new high.

One in 88 American children has autism or a related disordered, the highest estimate to date, according to the CDC. The numbers represent an increase of nearly 25 percent since the last analysis in 2002, and double the reported rate in 2002.

Health experts now estimate that autism likely affects approximately 1 million U.S. children and teens.
