Competing Reagan Republicans in North Idaho

Posted By on Mon, May 7, 2012 at 9:09 AM

A number of north Idaho Republicans are at odds over who is more like the late Ronald Reagan. The dispute may even end up in a courtroom.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that the Kootenai County Reagan Republicans have been served legal notice to stop using the name - because someone else has already claimed it. The letter, from attorneys representing another group of Kootenai County Reagan Republicans, orders their counterparts to shut down, and not "promote, display or produce any document, media or other communication in any form that includes the name."

A spokesman for the unregistered group said his colleagues had used the name since the summer of 2009 and will not consult with their own lawyer.

The registered group includes Jeff Alltus, a former member of the Idaho House of Representatives, representing Legislative District 3 in the mid 1990s.
