Romney Takes Lead in Florida Poll

Posted By on Wed, May 23, 2012 at 9:19 AM

With a long way to go until Election Day, Mitt Romney has taken a six-point lead over President Barack Obama in the electorally important state of Florida.

A new poll out this morning from Quinnipiac University, Romney is holding support from 47 percent of likely Florida voters compared to Obama's 41 percent. That's a shift from earlier this month, when a similar poll indicated a virtual dead heat in the Sunshine State; and in March, Obama was leading romney 49 to 42 perent.

According to the survey, Romney increases his chances even more if he were to decide to add Florida Sen. Marco Rubio to his ticket. Forty-nine percent of presumptive voters said they would vote for Romney-Rubio compared to 41 percent for Obama-Biden.

The margin of the error in the poll is plus or minus 2.4 percent.
