Parents of Undergrad Hurt in Drunken Fall Offer Settlement to State

The Caldwell parents of a University of Idaho student are offering to drop their lawsuit against the U of I and the Board of Education in return for a settlement, as long as it's reached before Friday, June 15. The Moscow Daily News reports that the suit also names the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

The girl, who was 19 years old in September 2009, was injured when she fell out of a window at the frat house after consuming alcohol. She fell approximately 25 feet before hitting pavement.

Court documents confirmed that the girl had been drinking at the frat house and at another previous party in her sorrority house.

The suit alleges that the university and the state were at fault because they oversee the Greek community at the Moscow campus. The lawsuit also says that the frat house was not equipped with adequate safety devices.

The defendants have court hearings in June and July, seeking to dismiss the suit.
