State Journal: NCAA Investigates Claim of Booster Offering Pay for Play

Posted By on Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 9:02 AM

The NCAA has launched an investigation into allegations of a booster willing to pay basketball players under the table in order for them to play for Idaho State University.

The Idaho State Journal reports that former interim coach Deane Martin made the complaint in a letter, dated March 6, to ISU Athletic Director Jeff Tingey. The Journal reports that Martin fired off the letter one day after not being picked as the school's permanent men's basketball coach. When Tingy told Martin that the letter was "potentially slanderous," Martin decided to forward the letter to the NCAA.

Martin and Tingey declined to comment but the Journal obtained a copy of the letter from an ISU employee.
