War Chest 2012: Carole King to Perform $500-a Person LeFavour Fundraiser

Editor's note: Citydesk will be regularly tracking campaign war chests, local and national, as we follow donations to candidates for the White House, U.S. Congress and the Idaho Statehouse.

When Boise Democratic State Sen. Nicole LeFavour stood before a packed room June 16 at the Idaho Democratic State Convention, she talked about a series of issues: the economy, ethics, health care and what she called Republicans' "lack of respect" for the working class.

But LeFavour, who is challenging seven-term Republican Rep. Mike Simpson for his 2nd District seat in the U.S. House, had a final message for the crowd: she needs money.

"I've raised $100,000 by mid June and that's quite impressive," she said. "Especially considering that not a single dollar has come from a political action committee; they're all individual donations. But I need your help. I have to raise $180,000 in the next two weeks."

LeFavour was referring to local funds that would be leveraged to "open the door" to national endorsements and financial support.

Late Monday, a group of LeFavour's supporters announced a $500-a-person exclusive (limited to 50 people) concert by multiple-platinum album performer and longtime Democratic supporter Carole King. The event is slated for Sunday, Sept. 9.

In Wednesday's BW, we examine how the Idaho Democratic Party is prepared to push the reset button by pushing out a younger and predominately female slate of candidates in the November general election.
