Air Quality Alert, Thunderstorms in Store for Treasure Valley

Posted By on Mon, Jul 16, 2012 at 8:18 AM

Stop us if you've heard this one before. The Treasure Valley is beginning yet another week with an air quality alert. Boise's ozone levels, which topped out on July 12 with an orange alert, are expected to hit a lower yellow alert today, but officials said there is still risk to those individuals with respiratory challenges.

The Idaho Department of Lands has banned outdoor burning on public lands in Ada, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Owyhee, Payette and Washington counties.

The National Weather Service has posted a red flag warning for eastern Oregon's Blue Mountains as a low-pressure system brings in abundant lightning and the threat of new wildfires.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to sweep into the Treasure Valley today, but give way to sunshine for the remainder of the week. Treasure Valley highs are expected to be in the mid 80s.
