Boise Gymnastics Coach Faces More Sex-Abuse Charges

Posted By on Sat, Aug 4, 2012 at 10:11 AM

Two weeks ago, Citydesk first reported that 22-year-old Derek Nesbitt of Boise, entrusted with the safety of young boys and girls while serving as a local gymnastics coach, was charged with sexual battery. But late Friday, Ada County prosecutors announced that new charges were being added after a grand jury handed down a five-count indictment, including lewd and lascivious acts and dispensing alcohol to minors. Investigators said the charges were connected to Nesbitt's contact with four different minors at his Boise home.

Detectives said Nesbitt met the teens while assisting the Borah High School cheerleading squad and through his coaching at a Meridian gymnastics school.

Nesbitt is expected to be arraigned on the additional charges on Wednesday, Aug. 8.
