War Chest 2012: Romney Fundraising Continues at Blistering Pace

Posted By on Mon, Aug 6, 2012 at 9:01 AM

Mitt Romney had another banner fundraising month in July, raising more than $101 million for his campaign and the Republican National Committee, ending the month with nearly $186 million in the bank. It was Romney's second month in a row of raising more than $100 million, coming in just behind June's $106 million.

The money came from a number of smaller committees aimed at raising funds for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in a joint committee known as Romney Victory. CNN reports that if President Barack Obama doesn't raise more than Romney, it will mark the third consecutive month that Romney has outpaced the president in fundraising.

Romney kicked off his August fundraising with a bang, picking up more than $2 million at a Aug. 3 fundraiser in Sun Valley. Oscar winner Clint Eastwood flew into Idaho to make a surprise appearance and his endorsement of Romney.

Any money set aside for the general election cannot be tapped until the end of August, when Romney is formally nominated as his party's standard bearer. The Republican National Convention will be held in Tampa, Fla.
