Boise's Nick Symmonds has secured a lane in Thursday's 800-meter final at the London Olympics.

The 2002 Bishop Kelly grad finished third Tuesday evening, London time, in his semifinal race, clocking in at 1 minute, 44.87 seconds, the fastest time of any non-automatic qualifier. (The top two in each of three semifinal races advanced automatically.)

This is the furthest Symmonds has ever progressed in Olympic competition. In 2008, he was not fast enough to make it to the finals of the Beijing Olympics.

Here's the rundown, in order of the fastest times in today's semifinals, for Thursday's gold medal race, to be held 1 p.m., Mountain time: Mohammed Aman (Ethiopia), David Rudisha (Kenya, the current world-record holder), Abubaker Kaki (Sudan), Nijel Amos (Botswana), Timothy Kitum (Kenya), Andrew Osagie (Great Britain), Symmonds and Duane Solomon (United States).
