Falling Debris Shuts Down Idaho 55

Posted By on Fri, Aug 10, 2012 at 9:40 AM

Heading to McCall for the weekend? Carve out some extra time.

After being closed or restricted through much of the week while firefighters battle the Springs Fire, burning between Idaho 55 and the Banks-to-Lowman Highway, the Idaho Transportation Department has shut down Highway 55 again this morning after rock and debris fell onto the highway.

ITD closed down Idaho 55 between Gardena Road and Smiths Ferry Drive, south of Cascade, early today.

ITD estimates that up to 3,500 vehicles travel Idaho 55 during an average weekday but that number grows dramatically on summer weekends.
