More than a few said, "I'll believe it when I see it." Believe it: The Boise Hole is being filled.

Folks heading for Sunday brunch or out for a stroll got an eyeful this morning as more than 1,000 cubic yards of concrete were being poured at what will soon be formerly known as the Boise Hole. The foundation is being poured for what will become a $76 million, 18-story tower at Eighth and Main streets. If all goes as planned, the building should be complete by January 2014.

More than 100 trucks of concrete rolled through the Grove Plaza in Sunday morning's pre-dawn hours in preparation for the pour. Flood lights were perched atop the Eastman Garage so the pouring could begin before sunrise.

In this week's edition of Boise Weekly, we spend some time in the hole with David Bowar, project manager with Engineered Structures, Inc., contractors for the massive project.

"That's a lot of blood and sweat down there," he said, pointing to the now-infamous hole.
