1,400+ Personnel Battling Trinity Ridge Blaze

Posted By on Fri, Aug 24, 2012 at 9:23 AM

Even with more than 1,400 personnel on the job, the Trinity Ridge Fire continues to scorch Elmore County—only 5 percent of the massive blaze is contained.

Firefighters continued burnout operations Thursday along the northwest ridge behind the town of Featherville. The burnout is expected to provide a buffer by reducing fuel between residences and the main fire. Crews continue to work around the clock to manage the burnout and provide structure protection.

Fire officials are keeping a close eye on today's weather, with a cold front forecast to move into the area from the north. The front is expected to decrease humidity and produce gusty winds, again resulting in critical fire conditions, which may hamper the burnout operations and aerial support.

As of this morning, 79 engines, 24 water tenders, two bulldozers and eight helicopters are being used to battle the flames.
