Boo Boo Bear, who captured the hearts of sympathizers from around the nation following his rescue last week from the Mustang Complex Fire north of Salmon, has been moved to the Idaho Humane Society.
Idaho Fish and Game veterinarian Dr. Mark Drew, who has been caring for the cub at his central Idaho cabin, said it was best to transport Boo Boo to the Treasure Valley facility, "considering [the bear cub's] medical and other needs."
“He weighs just 23 pounds, but his appetite is good and his wounds have stabilized and seem to be improving,” said Drew. “Perhaps most importantly, there appears to be no infection in any of his foot pads, despite second-degree burns on all four feet.”
Firefighters and fishermen rescued Boo Boo from a Douglas fir tree on Aug. 26. They said he couldn't walk and hadn't eaten in approximately four days.
People wishing to support Boo Boo's recovery should send money to the Idaho Humane Society, Black Bear Fund, 4775 Dorman St., Boise, ID 83705.
