CenturyLink, Union Craft Temporary Agreement to Continue Working While Negotiating

Posted By on Mon, Oct 8, 2012 at 8:54 AM

CenturyLink announced Sunday that it had put together a temporary day-to-day agreement so that its unionized workers can remain on the job while negotiating a new contract.

The Associated Press reports that the old agreement between CenturyLink and the Communications Workers of America expired early Sunday morning.

CWA representatives say they want to bring more jobs back to the United States while CenturyLink officials say they face skyrocketing health care premiums and need to adjust their benefit package.

Some 13,000 workers across 13 states are affected, including hundreds of CenturyLink employees in the Treasure Valley.

“We have exchanged proposals on a number of different topics and a number of different subjects but we respect the confidentiality of our discussions,” said CenturyLink spokesman Mark Molzen.
