TiVo, which measures its audience trends while pushing out thousands of hours of weekly television programming, points to new research that indicates Republicans watch golf while Democrats prefer professional basketball.

The New York Times reports that TiVo was able to match thousands of its customers to voter-registration records.

GOP viewers prefer NASCAR, American Idol, Survivor, The Biggest Loser and The Amazing Race, in addition to the Professional Golfers Association.

Meanwhile, Democrats tend to watch the NBA, Community, 30 Rock, Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show.

When things get a bit more serious, Republican TiVo subscribers prefer Fox News by a 44 percent margin while Democratic subscribers tune in MSNBC by a 43 percent skew, according to the Times.
