CDA Press: Idaho Lawman Has 'Lots of Concerns' About Washington Pot Legalization

At least one north Idaho lawman says he has concerns - "lots of them" - in the wake of Washington state's recent vote to legalize recreational use of marijuana.

"It's going to impact both states, probably pretty significantly," Kootenai County Sheriff's Department Lt. Stu Miller told the Coeur d'Alene Press. "Washington residents, especially from Spokane and eastern Washington, come to Idaho a ton to recreate."

Miller told the Press that his department "had some planning to do."

"We'll need to make sure we're up to speed on all the regulations and rules for Washington, because we're so close," he said.

Idaho prosecutes less than 3 ounces of marijuana as a misdemeanor, resulting in a jail sentence of up to a year or a fine of up to $1,000. Possession of more than 3 ounces of pot in Idaho is a felony and could land someone behind bars up to five years.
